The 21 days of lockdown is proved extremely difficult for the people with alcohol addiction .Three such men lost their lives after consuming paint and varnish when alcohol was not available.

The incident took place on sunday in Chengalpattu,Tamil Nadu. Shivshankar, Pradeep and Shivraman were brought to the government hospital in serious conditions. The doctors started treating them, but all three died one after the other.

Initial investigations by the police revealed that they had alcohol addiction. Due to the lockdown, alcohol was not available for several days and they were looking for it. In restlessness, they drank the paint mixed with varnish.

The country has a lockdown of 21 days from March 25 to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. All other services except the essential ones are prohibited. The Tamil Nadu government also decided to close liquor shops till 14 April last week.

Suicide in maharashtra too

Earlier, a similar sad incident occurred in Maharashtra. In Nagpur, a rickshaw driver set himself on fire when he did not get alcohol for several days.

Home delivery of liquor in Kerala

Home delivery of alcohol started  with conditions after cases of suicides from various parts of the state were reported. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed the Excise Department to give liquor to people after the prescription of doctors. The Government of Kerala asked the Excise Department to provide free treatment to such people in de-addiction centers. The Chief Minister said that social problems may arise due to sudden alcohol withdrawal.
